Dutch national school competition Imagine... creates enthusiasm for biotechnology with high school students
Imagine... tries to put the science to the test. This project aims to bring life scientists and high school students together to apply concrete ideas in the life sciences for the benefit of developing countries.
Imagine… consists of 3 phases:
- Project proposals : scientists are invited to submit proposals for the application of a specific technology in a developing country. Five winning proposals will be awarded during the 10th Netherlands Biotechnology Congress, 11-12 March 2004
- A school competition : high school students will be invited to set up a business plan for any of the five selected project proposals. The winning school will be awarded during the Genomics Momentum 2004 congress, 31 August - 1 September 2004
- Implementing the project : on the basis of the business plan and the original proposal, and with the involvement of the winning students and the scientist who proposed the project, the project will be carried out in the destination country.
Imagine... is an initiative of the Kluyver Centre for Genomics of Industrial Fermentation in conjunction with: Nederlands Instituut voor Biologie (NIBI), Nederlandse Biotechnologische Vereniging (NBV), Centre for BioSystems Genomics (CBSG), Nationaal Regieorgaan Genomics (NROG), Stichting Biotechnologie Nederland (SBN) and European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB.
